Phase 2 of Remote Learning and Paper Packet Distribution

Good Evening Callahan School Community,

I hope that this message finds all of you safe and healthy. We miss all of you terribly, and as a staff we were greatly saddened to officially hear that we would not be back together with our students and families for the remainder of the school year. With that being said, we are encouraged and enthusiastic about the number of students and families who remain in contact with their teachers. I have attended numerous Zoom meetings over the last couple of weeks, and it was great to see and speak with so many of our students. On Monday, April 27, Phase Two of the District Remote Learning Plan will launch. LPS (Lynn Public Schools) has worked tirelessly to create learning packets with choice menus which will allow students and parents to choose appropriate learning activities for everyone. All academic support packets will be available on the LPS website, lynnschools.org, and on the Callahan School Classroom Dojo as of Monday. Additionally, each school in the district will be passing out these packets on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week (4/27 - 4/29), from 9:00AM to 12:00PM (noon). Also, beginning on April 30, and ending on May 8, these packets will be available for pick-up during the to-go lunch hours, which are 11:00AM to 1:00PM, at Classical High School, English High School, LVTI (Lynn Tech), and Marshall Middle School.

There will be two options for pick-up at the Callahan School.

1) Anyone walking to the building should come to the main entrance of the school. Please remember to follow safe social-distancing protocols throughout the pick-up process. We will be distributing through the far left, and far right, doors at the main entrance. If you arrive and notice that both doors are occupied, please wait for one of the doors to become available before approaching. There will be markers 6 feet apart on the ground for people to stand on. This will help to ensure that everyone standing in line is following social-distancing guidelines.

2) If you are driving, and would like drive-up service, you should drive into the school parking lot which is located on the side of the building. As you enter the parking lot, please drive up to the first door that you see. The door has a ramp leading up to it. Make sure that when you pull up, your passenger-side door is next to the ramp. A teacher will come out and ask you which packets, and how many, you need for your child(ren). We will get what you need and drop it right through your open car window. Then you can turn around and exit the parking lot while driving along the fence on the opposite side of the parking lot. Please remember that we will be using an abundance of safety measures, as our first priority is to keep everyone healthy throughout this process. Superintendent Tutwiler is asking students, parents, and school staff to follow Mayor McGee’s city-wide request, that when you are arriving at a school to pick up packets, you are wearing some type of mask or protective cloth over your mouth and nose. In closing, I will remind all of you that if you have questions, concerns, or need assistance in any way, we are here for you and you can contact us at any time. Again, my email is kennisonj@lynnschools.org. I will continue to keep all of you in my thoughts, as we work together, to get through this together.

Sincerely,

Jim Kennison
